Justin Lloyd - Personal Blend, The Medicinals, Bad is Bad: A Tribute to Huey Lewis + Going the Distance: A Tribute to Cake | 30th Anniversary Monette Prana Raja P3 B-flat trumpet
"My favorite trumpet is my 30th Anniversary Monette Prana Raja P3 B-flat trumpet, with a little image of the ska music icon Walter Jabsco custom engraved on the 2nd valve casing." -

"I started playing on used Monette equipment a few years after graduating from college and immediately felt at home playing on their style of trumpet gear. I was truly able to craft an individual and unique sound and I promised myself that I was going to start saving and budgeting for my own new Monette trumpet. About 10 years later, while on tour with my ska band, Mrs. Skannotto, I got an opportunity to get my name onto the production waiting list and I jumped at the chance. After getting it in my hands back in 2014, I haven’t looked back. I love playing it in all the reggae and ska stuff that I do, as well as anything that can afford a broader, slightly darker unique trumpet sound. I also play abeautiful Bach trumpet for when that traditional trumpet sound is needed!"

Who is your favorite Rochester musician?
"There’s so many talented musicians around here, putting my finger on one who is my absolute favorite is next to impossible. However, currently, I think Eli Flynn is making some of the most interesting and cool music across his various musical outlets. Whether it’s his spin on classic Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad tunes or the new music he’s been releasing with The Able Bodies recently, there’s always something unique and cool happening there."

Why do you love the Rochester music scene?
"What I love about the Rochester music scene is the collective support for one another and the wonderful talent that is on display here week in and week out. The rarity of having such a talented collection of people who show such love and support for each other can’t be overstated, it’s truly amazing. It’s a wonderfully fulfilling thing to be involved in such a great scene like ours!" -
