Rita Harris Proctor | Soprano |The Crooked North
"So there’s no mystery with the acquisition on this one but I am told I began performing at 3. My mom tells me that I would start putting on little performances everywhere I went. I began studying voice at 9. Singing lets me tap into my creative side. It’s pure joy.
Although I perform in an Americana band, I’m classically trained. I’m a soprano and I enjoy singing with others. I think that harmonizing is one of my strengths as a singer. That’s one thing that early training definitely helped me with."

Who is your favorite Rochester musician?
"Mikaela Davis is my favorite Roc musician. She’s such a badass. I love her vocals - she manages to stay super relaxed vocally but she has so much punch in her high range. She channels classic influences and creates a beautiful blend of the old, the modern, and the strange. The inventive way she uses harp in an electric band is unbelievably compelling too. She’s a gem. I never miss an opportunity to see her perform."

What is your favorite Rochester music venue?
" 3HB is hands down my favorite venue. The brewery has really turned up the music scene here in ROC. Their Rochester Residency has encouraged some killer collaborations too." -

Why do you love the Rochester music scene?
"I love the ROC music scene because we have so many talented and dedicated musicians here. You can see a killer band almost any night of the week and not break the bank. Being a part of the scene has helped me meet a bunch of creative folx who almost never turn down an opportunity to perform or collaborate. It’s a weird little family that I’m so grateful to be a part of."
